 Parabens

Here's some information you may not know about parabens. Parabens -- such as propylparaben, ethylparaben and butylparaben--are synthetic preservatives commonly used in cosmetics and personal care items. They are suspected to be endocrine disruptors, and they have been found to mimic estrogen in laboratory experiments. Many people have allergic reactions to these preservatives causing skin rashes and irritation. Needless to say, there is a great ongoing debate as to the safety of products containing parabens.

Body Scrubs - Why Beneficial?

Our skin is exposed to hot and cold weather on a daily basis and this can cause our skin to become dry, itchy and flaky. Taking baths can clean away dirt but it does not remove the dry, flaky skin. Our skin constantly rejuvenates itself, shedding dead cells and generating new ones. Unfortunately, those old cells remain on the surface of the skin, dulling its appearance and contributing to blotchy, uneven tones. Glycolic acid, part of the chemical family referred to as alpha-hydroxy acids, is a naturally occurring compound in sugar cane. Alpha hydroxy acids work by stimulating dead cells on the surface of the skin and inside the pores so they can slough off more easily. When the scrub is massaged onto the skin, it helps to dissolve and remove the outer layer of dead skin cells as well as in the pores with ease. By decreasing the thickness of dead cells on the surface, a new layer of skin with a smoother texture and a more uniform color can be revealed. This is known as exfoliation, is an essential step in any skin care regiment.

Massage Candles - What are they?

Massage Candles, at first glance, look just like any other candle. But, in fact, a massage candle is not really a candle in the traditional sense of the word. Upon closer inspection you will find that a massage candle is actually massage oil in a solid form. And some massage candles, like  ours,  are a massage oil and lotion combined. This is because the real purpose of a massage candle is to provide a simple method of heating the massage oil before applying it to the body.

Most Massage Candles are scented with either fragrance oils or essential oils and & just like a normal candle, will emit a soothing fragrance when they are lit. However, because they are intended for use as a massage oil or body balm and used on the skin, massage candles have a more subtle fragrance than a regular candle might.

The Benefits of Soy Candles

The following list identifies a number of reasons why soy wax candles are preferable to paraffin wax candles:

  •  No carcinogens are produced from burning soy wax.
  •  Soy wax is non-toxic.
  •  Little or no soot is produced from burning soy wax.
  •  Soy wax will not discolor your walls or furniture with petroleum byproducts.
  •  Soy wax is a renewable resource; petroleum is limited.
  •  Soy wax is biodegradable.
  •  Soy wax is water-soluble (no more messy cleanups).
  •  Burning soy wax candles helps support the American farmer.
  •  Soy wax holds color and scent better than paraffin.
  • Soy wax burns 30% to 50% longer than paraffin.
  • Soy wax is generally softer and liquifies quickly, and since they burn  cooler, they last longer, giving you more burn for your buck.
  • Cooler burning soy candles are also safer, since molten soy wax is less likely to cause blistered skin. (see above note)
